NSMH –Southern Region Family,

I greet you in the spirit of service, commitment, and confidence. It is with great respect that I thank you for this opportunity to serve your 2008-2009 Southern Regional Chair of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH).  I have various goals for this year for the Southern Region which includes increasing membership among chapters, having all Southern chapters participate in applying for chapter awards, and continue one of the goals of my predecessor by extending the NSMH door to the Hospitality schools located in the Caribbean Islands. With the Southern Region growing and with the top tier personnel that we have in all of the schools in our region, I know this year will be one of the greatest.

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing that the 9th Annual Southern Conference will be held in the Austin, Texas; the capital of my favorite state. Our Regional Conference will be held October 31 -November 1, 2008, at the Courtyard Austin Downtown/Convention Center. Here, we will network, build friendships, attend professional development workshops, share ideas and bond as a region. For I am hopeful today that the Southern Region will embark upon Austin with the purpose and integrity of receiving cutting-edge knowledge and building relationships that encourages a lifelong commitment to NSMH.

My goal for the 2008 Southern Region Conference is to have 125 students, faculty, and industry partners in attendance. We have an opportunity to exhibit the character that exists within this awesome, yet developing region and I am confident that we will obtain our goals.

Throughout the year, it is important that each member recognizes his or her role in the organization. In order for each member to find their niche they must remain involved with the many activities NSMH require each chartered chapter to commit to: STRENGH programs, Recruiting new members, Re-energizing current membership, Hospitality Week, Regional and National Conferences (February 12-15, 2008 – 20th Annual NSMH National Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina)

NSMH-Southern Region Family, we can only succeed together with one voice that proclaims, "NSMH will be nationally recognized as the premier professional organization for developing exceptional minority student talent and leadership." Once again, I am ecstatic to serve you, the NSMH asset. I wish each of you well in your endeavors and feel free to contact me anytime at south@nsmh.org.
