What are some events that Cornell is holding to recruit new members? This fall, we held five main events to get freshmen, transfers, and returning students excited about NSMH and the upcoming events that we have planned for this year. Those five main events were The School of Hotel Administration (SHA) Mixer, Diversity Club Fair, SHA Club Fair, NSMH Welcome Reception, and NSMH Resume Workshop. SHA Mixer The School of Hotel Administration Mixer was held on Monday, August 15th, 2011. This mixer was put on for all of the freshmen and transfer students in the Hotel School. NSMH took this opportunity to introduce our organization to the new students. We had a table set up with our information, and we went around to talk to people about what our mission is and how they can get involved. Diversity Club Fair & SHA Club Fair The Diversity Club Fair was held on Saturday, August 27th, 2011, and the SHA Club Fair was held on Tuesday, August 30th, 2011. Both of these events were held to give students information about organizations that might be of interest to them. The Diversity Club fair was held in the Robert Purcell Community Center (RPCC) Multipurpose room. Each minority organization on campus was able to set up a table and speak to students. NSMH created a poster board to use at this event, and we printed up flyers about our upcoming roundtables and general body meetings.
The SHA Club Fair was held in the Statler Atrium. At this event, each club in the Hotel School was able to give students information about their organization. NSMH used the same presentation as we used at the Diversity Club Fair to inform people about our organization.
NSMH Welcome Reception The NSMH Welcome Reception was held on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 in the Statler Hotel. This was a business professional event where current NSMH members were able to introduce themselves to the new members. We really wanted to make our incoming members feel very welcomed into the NSMH family. In addition, our president and vice-president spoke about the exciting events that we have coming up for this year and ways that everybody can get involved. NSMH Resume Workshop The NSMH Resume Workshop was held on Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 in the Computer Lab in Statler Hall. At this event, a representative from the Office of Student Services gave a presentation and critiqued member’s resumes. Executive board members were also be present to help students as needed. We also provided membership information to all of our new members. So, we talked about the Regional and National conferences, events that we have going on this year, the NSMH Scholarship, the Academic Excellence Program, ways to get involved, and dues. Then, we assisted members in signing up for their NSMH membership right there in the computer lab with their newly updated resumes.
