Chair's Message 2015-16
Greetings NSMH Family, Friends, and Sponsor
My name is Kendra MacLure and it is my absolute pleasure to serve as your 2016-2017 National Chair. In this role I am committed to upholding the mission and vision, putting the needs of our members first, and above all, continuing the success of the organization.
As we move forward in the academic year, I encourage chapters to refocus on what NSMH truly stands for, especially given recent events around the country. My hope is that equality and inclusion are more than just words on a piece of paper, but a reality for which we all fight. I hope our members see NSMH as more than just a resume booster, because it is. It is so much more than that. Being part of NSMH means upholding the values the organization created when it was founded.
This year’s theme, “Planting Seeds for Growth”, will emphasize development in all aspects—personal, individual, and organizational. Our goal is to not only take advantage of the opportunities that NSMH already has to offer, such as the conferences, programs, and initiatives, but also to ask ourselves how we can do better. In such a fast-paced world, there are really only two options—be the change or watch the change happen. Throughout the upcoming term we will challenge our members to make themselves uncomfortable, go the extra mile, and really showcase to sponsors what premier student talent looks like. We will also be partnering with our alumni association, HIPE, to present networking opportunities and foster life-long relationships. All of these goals will require new ideas and innovative thinking, but if carried out, will make for a year unlike any other.
We are thrilled to announce that this year’s regional conferences will have a slightly different format than years past. In order to create a more intimate experience, the Southern and Midwest Regions will participate in a summit, exclusive only for their members. The Southern Summit will be hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando, and the Midwest Summit will be hosted by DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. Alternately, the West and Northeast/Southeast conferences will be hosted by Cal Poly-Pomona and Temple University respectively. The regional conferences are a fantastic way to familiarize yourself with recruiters and your peers, and to foster integral relationships. They set so many up for success, and yet are still often overlooked.
I am honored to serve an organization such as this one and to have a team brimming with exceptional talent. Please feel free to contact me for any reason; my role is to help you in whatever way possible. Together, we can leave a legacy that is truly unforgettable.
